Brennan's Journal

August 25-September 2, 2005

Finally we went to Illinois to see everyone.  We had a great time but we all wiped out by the time we made it back to Florida.  We spent most of Labor day weekend sleeping and being lazy.  Brennan did very well in the van although by the time we hit Savannah coming home he was finished.  So the last small leg of the drive was fun.  He is slowly getting back to his routine of napping and sleeping.  Milestones during this week, he started sucking his thumb, this has faded some and he seems to enjoy sucking on his fist.  He is also grabbing everything from my shirt to his rattles.

August 14-21, 2005

We had visitors on Monday, Sheleigh and Bill stopped by and on Tuesday we had our class.  Brennan is doing better--he loves the massage and stretching but is not found of the belly exercises.  It is amazing how his vision is improving.  He is staring at things that are further and further away.  Brennan 100% knows our voices and will turn and smile when you say his name.  This weekend we hit the mall and outlet stores shopping for who else.  We found lots of adorable fall and winter clothes, sadly we had to get 12 month size because he is already so BIG!!!  It will be interesting to see how much he weighs on 9/1.  He did great for being out all day but does not like the stroller, I think because he can not see what is going on.  When it cools down we can use the sling or Baby Bjorn but for now we just happily carry him.  The stroller did come in handy when he slept.

August 7-13, 2005

Brennan had more visitors this week.  Grandpa and Grandma Pearson came to stay with us.  We were out and about everyday.  He is staying awake and alert for longer periods of time and is spreading out feedings.  Brennan also started a music, movement, and language class. This class incorporates infant massage and stretching to help relax all the muscles that were bent in the womb.  The class is done in Spanish.  Brennan enjoyed the massage part but did get upset when we did the stretches while he was on his tummy.  On Thursday we went stopped by school to see everyone.  The kids were so sweet wanting to see him.  We have officially retired all the 0-3 sleepers (they are too short) and most of his 0-3 clothes.  He is comfortably wearing 3-6 months clothes.

Brennan had his 2 month check-up (hard to believe it has been that long!!!).  He got a clean bill of health from Dr. Miles, she was impressed with his neck control and he is on target with everything developmentally.  He weighs 13.5 lbs (90%) and is 24" (70%).  He had 2 shots and did not like them (it was actually pitiful).  He turned red and even cried tears, fortunately he nursed immediately and that calmed him down and then he was fine.

July 24-30, 2005

Back to just the two of us at home.  Brennan is staying up for longer periods of time during the day and is for the most part only getting up once in the evening to eat.  We got the in pool a couple of evenings this week.  He has a 15-20 minute span where he is smiling and staring intently while in the pool and then he decides that is enough.  He also had his first stroller ride.  We have evening walks with Ally, alternating Brennan in the stroller and his baby carrier that daddy wears.  On Saturday we went to Jacksonville to celebrate Michael's birthday.  We went to the mall and then out to eat.  Brennan did great, when we are out he gets so many people stopping and asking us about him.  Everyone thinks he is a cutie and we could not agree more.

July 10-23, 2005

Brennan was extra spoiled over the past two weeks with Emily and Mistee around, we had two more bodies to hold and cuddle with him.  With the intense summer HEAT we spent most of the time at home in the air conditioning , still going out occasionally for dinner out shopping.  After my doctor appointment on the 18th Emily and I took Brennan to the mall and then out to lunch.  He did very well eating in between stops and sleeping while out and about.  We are seeing new faces everyday and getting some coo's to go along with the smiles.  He is definitely growing, he has moved into the next size diapers that looked so big when I got them out of the bag but the fit nicely.

July 3-9, 2005

Spent most of the week home, going out for the occasional outing to pick up odds and ends.  The weather has been so HOT that it is miserable to get out in it.  Picked up Emily and Mistee at the airport on Friday.  Saturday evening Brennan got to go swimming for the first time.  The pool water was warm and he enjoyed being in the water.   Sunday we went out to our favorite new mall and had lunch, Brennan did quite well sleeping through lunch.  It was raining because of Hurricane Dennis so we did not get to walk around as much as we would have liked.

June 26-July 2, 2005

Monday Brennan and I ventured out by ourselves to see Debbie and Kristen at summer school, then we spent the rest of the week at home except for little outings to the grocery store and Walmart.  Brennan had his first bath last week and he loved it, I think we have a little fish on our hands.  Since then even when he is upset he can get into the water and relax his body and "swim" around.  He is up more and more everyday and starting to give us some adorable faces and even a couple of new sounds.  For the most part Brennan is sleeping 2-3 hours stretches at night, just getting up and wanting to eat and goes back to sleep.

June 19-25, 2005

We had a full week for only being 2 weeks old.  Monday was our first day being home "alone" together (we survived with no problems).  On Tuesday he had his 2 week well check up with the pediatrician.  He got a clean bill of health, weighing in at 8 lbs 15.5 oz and 22 inches long.  After we left the doctors office we went by daddy's office to see everyone and then onto the airport to pick up Grandpa Clutts.  We left the airport and went to eat, Brennan did really well all day only needing to stop and eat a couple of times.  We spent the rest of the day and the next day visiting with Grandpa.  Hung around the house on Thursday and Friday, and on Saturday went to Jacksonville to get our pictures taken.  This was an experience, Brennan did not want to sit or lay down for the pictures.  I think I can get more natural shots and definitely I can do it cheaper.

June 15-18, 2005

Brennan is starting to be awake more during the day.  He is still doing great at night, getting up a couple of times to eat and then falling right back asleep.  Thursday we had a busy day going by school to see everybody.  We left and stopped by to watch daddy get his hair cut.  Everyone thought Brennan was a beautiful baby at the salon.  He was awake and alert the entire time, making lots of cute faces and making everyone fall in love with him.  Friday was a lazy day at home, spending most of it laying around on the couch and in bed.  Over the weekend we ran to Jacksonville to pick up some odds and ends at Target.  Brennan still does not like his car seat, but usually falls asleep quickly once the van starts moving.  Hopefully it will get better with time.

June 8-14, 2005

We had a full first week.  We checked out of the hospital on the 11th and came home.  The homecoming was short because we were back at the hospital the next morning to have blood work done.  Once we got the results, the doctor admitted Brennan to Wolfson's Children's Hospital.  He spent the next 24 hours under the ultraviolet lights to clear up his Jaundice.  We were released on Monday (13th) afternoon and once again were able to come home.  Brennan has a great temperament, he had his days and nights mixed up in the hospital, but once we came home this remedied itself and he is only waking up for feedings every 3 hours.

On the 14th he had his first pediatrician appointment.  Everything looked great, he was back up to 8lbs 8ozs.  After his appointment we went out on our first "family" outing.  We stopped and had lunch, he did great just sleeping on daddy's chest.  We made an appointment to have his eyes checked out with an pediatric ophthalmologist next week.
