Birth Story

We went in to the hospital at 7:00 am on June 8th.  Once Michael and I got settled in the Labor and Delivery room they started the Pitocin.  I came in 2cm dilated and by 9:00 I was close to 4cm.  At that time Dr. Stenklyft broke my water.  Around 10:30 they put in the epidural and the rest of the afternoon I was comfortable.  I went from 4 cm to 7cm rather quickly, but then stopped making progress.  Around 7:00 the epidural was starting to wear off and I was feeling intense pain. They administered a small dose of pain medication and that did work, but only temporarily.  The pain medication wore off and I was left to push through the pain.

After pushing through everything, the Dr. used the vacuum and Brennan was delivered at 10:22 pm.  He had the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck and even had a knot in the cord.  He checked out okay and was handed over to Michael and Me.  We were able to spend around 1 hour with him and then he went to the nursery with dad.  Brennan had all the typical tests done and they all came back fine.  Dad was able to help give him his first bath and massage lotion on him (which he loves).  Brennan came back to the room around 2:00 am and stayed with us until we were released on Saturday.  The hospital was great and encouraged babies to room with moms.  He stayed in our arms the entire stay even sleeping with one of us at all times.  He started nursing when he came back from the nursery and latched on with no problems.  We are truly blessed to have such a great son.  He is very easy going and only gets upset when he wants to eat (which is all the time).
